Favoritism at school

A lot of teachers show favoritism to students and vice versa. Favoritism is everywhere, especially in the workplace and school. Favoritism can be done consciously and unconsciously. When we pick people out of a crowd for a anything or when we pick groups for group projects, we often subconsciously pick people we like or favor over others. Teachers are affected by favoritism. They talk about things pertaining to their favorite students; they talk about the student’s performance in sports or another activity but push aside the breaking news that another student wants to talk about. Without knowing it, we have all started to rely on favoritism to get us through certain situations such as getting out of trouble. Some students know they are being favored and they take advantage of it and who is to blame them?
…..Society constantly teaches us favoritism. We are given surveys for various things multiple times a year. We are trained and taught to pick our favorites out of the choices given on those surveys so why would we not apply that to everyday life? Those favorite things and people stay in our heads and we unconsciously let them find a home to stay in in our heads. Though we may not know it, our subconscious makes a lot of decisions for us. When we hear a loud and dangerous commotion, our minds tell us to run from it, although we may choose not to. It is that little resistance that can make us stray from favoritism.
……We need to learn how to control our favoritism, whether we are teachers or students. We could make ourselves more aware to our actions by thinking more before acting. Instead of letting students pick their own groups all the time, teachers should have an organized way of grouping students. Teachers also should not give special privileges to specific students…
